What the heck is a Grimalkin?🐾

As I was searching for spooky cat-themed inspiration for summer candle fragrances, I came across the term "Grimalkin." I'd heard this term before, but wasn't sure exactly what it meant.

So what the heck is a Grimalkin?

🐈‍⬛It's an archaic term for a cat, more specifically, an old, haggard female cat. Back in the day, witches were accused of having a familiar that was a demon in disguise - often this was a cat.

🧙According to legend, a cat would offer itself to a witch and undergo a powerful transformation, gaining supernatural abilities, including shapeshifting. References to the Grimalkin appear in gothic literature and poetry, including Shakespeare's Macbeth and Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights.

👻The term "Grimalkin" has roots in Scottish and Celtic folklore, referring to a mystical cat-like fairy or supernatural creature. In Scottish legend, Grimalkin is often associated with the Cat Sìth, a spectral feline that is said to roam the highlands.

So, as we head into spooky season, beware the Grimalkin! Or maybe give the Grimalkin some treats and make it your friend.🖤🐾
