Are your candles cruelty-free and vegan?
Yes! We love all our furry friends and source products that are cruelty-free and vegan.
Do you use eco-friendly or sustainable materials?
Yes! One of our founder’s biggest missions in life is to be as kind to the environment as possible. We strive to source the cleanest and most sustainable ingredients.
Our candles are made with all-natural coconut apricot wax, which is also a renewable resource!
Our custom blend fragrances are crafted with a combination of synthetic fragrance oils and essential oils and are always phthalate-free (a toxin commonly found in fragrance products).
Are your candles safe for pets?
Your (and your furry friends) well-being is of utmost importance! Our founder has a daughter as well as two cats in her home. While you must, of course, be cautious with children and pets around candle flames and keep the area well-ventilated, our candles are free of phthalates (a toxin commonly found in fragrance products).
How do I properly burn a candle to make it last longer?
Before burning, always trim the wick to ¼ inch for cotton wicks and ⅛ inch for wooden wicks. Make sure the candle is free of any debris and wick trimmings. Always burn candles in a well ventilated room, avoiding drafts. Never burn candles for longer than recommended (4 hours for our 8oz and 2 hours for our 2oz), and let cool for at least 2 hours before re-lighting.
What is the best way to trim a candle wick?
Keeping your wick properly trimmed is essential to safe and efficient candle burning. Cotton wicks should be trimmed to ¼ inch prior to burning and wooden wicks should be trimmed to ⅛ inch prior to burning. If you don’t have or don’t wish to purchase a wick trimmer, nail clippers work well for both cotton and wood wicks.
What is the best way to care for my wooden wick?
Wooden wicks are a bit more work than cotton ones, but the soothing crackle and beautiful flame make it worth the effort. Wooden wicks need to be trimmed shorter than cotton ones. ⅛ of an inch is ideal.
After burning your candle, your wooden wick will be charred at the top. All of this charred wick should be trimmed off before you light it again. This minimizes soot and helps maintain an even melt pool.
Please note that wooden wicks can be trickier to light than cotton ones. The wood may take a bit longer to light. This is normal, so please be patient and treat it as your candle ritual!
Why did my candle tunnel, and how can I fix it?
The best way to prevent tunneling is to burn your candle long enough on the first burn to create a full melt pool that reaches the edge of the vessel. But, if you weren’t able to do this, not to worry. Tunneling can be fixed in several ways:
One is to use a heat gun or hair dryer to re-melt the wax and create a smooth top. Be careful with this one; if the hair dryer or heat gun is too close to the wax, it can splatter.
A method for severe tunneling is to remove the higher wax along the edges. Please note, this may reduce burn time.
Another method involves using aluminum foil wrapped around the top of the candle vessel. The foil traps the candle’s heat and melts the extra wax. This takes longer than the other methods, and once again, be cautious as the foil and vessel will be quite hot.
What should I do if my candle starts smoking or sooting?
If your candle is smoking too much or burning black smoke, an un-trimmed wick is the likely culprit.
Extinguish the candle immediately, as we definitely don’t want that black smoke in our spaces (and it’s a fire hazard). Then trim your wick to the appropriate length (¼ inch for cotton wick, ⅛ inch or until all char is removed for wooden wick) and ensure your candle is free of any debris.
Other causes could be a drafty environment or extended burning time. So if you ensure your candle is in a heat safe area away from drafts, keep the wick properly trimmed, and avoid burning over the recommended amount of time, you should be able to avoid excess smoke and soot.
Pre-Order Questions
What is a pre-order and how does it work?
We hold pre-orders to gauge how much interest there is in each collection and to plan production. We keep pre-orders open for about two weeks and begin crafting and shipping as soon as the pre-order window is closed.
Items that are pre-orders will be clearly labeled in the product name and description.

When will pre-ordered candles ship?
We begin hand crafting pre-ordered candles as soon as the pre-order window is closed. Typically, candles will ship within two weeks of pre-orders closing.

Do I have to pay upfront for pre-orders?
Yes. Pre-orders are paid in full at the time of purchase and will ship within two weeks of the pre-order window closing.
Order Questions
Can I exchange a candle if I don’t like the scent?
We know it can be tricky to purchase scented candles online. While we do our best to describe our scents in detail, we know that everyone’s sense of smell is different.
If you’re not completely satisfied with your order, reach out to us at meow@hauntkatcandles.com and we will help you find something you love.
If your product is unused, you can ship the candle back to us within 30 days and we’ll help you find a scent you love.
What should I do if my order is incorrect?
We’re sorry to hear your order was incorrect! We do our best to ensure accuracy on every order, but, alas, we are still human and mistakes can happen. Simply email us at meow@hauntkatcandles.com and let us know what is missing or incorrect and we will resolve it as quickly and easily as possible!
What should I do if my order was damaged?
Oh no! It’s the worst when the cat knocks your order off the counter during the shipping process. Don’t fret…we have a 100% replacement policy on lost or damaged items. Just send us an email at meow@hauntkatcandles.com and let us know what was damaged.
Can I change or cancel my order?
We cannot change orders post shipping, but if you contact us at meow@hauntkatcandles.com within 24 hours of placing your order, we will likely be able to catch it and make the requested changes before it goes out.
Can I send an order as a gift?
Absolutely. We don’t include invoices or any pricing information in our shipments, so simply add the name and address of the person you want to gift to in the “shipping address” section and you are good to go.
Shipping Questions
Where do you ship?
Currently, we only ship within the United States, but we are working to expand our shipping internationally.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping rates are set by the shipping companies and are calculated at checkout based on weight and shipping address.
Do you offer free shipping?
If we could, we absolutely would! As a new family run business, this is currently not possible. We do strive to find the best shipping rates available. Shipping rates are calculated by the shipping company based on weight and address. You will see the shipping cost during the checkout process after entering your shipping address, but before payment.
How long will it take to receive my order?
We handcraft each candle to order! As a small family owned business, we’re not as fast as big box stores, but we aim to move with the speed of the cheetah and fulfill orders within 14 business days. Orders within the U.S. typically take 2-5 business days to arrive, but may take up to 10 business days depending on current shipping conditions. We will update you on the status of your order via email. Additionally, you may check our shipping updates page for current information.
Can my order ship to multiple addresses?
We can only ship to one address per order. But there is a solution! If you wish parts of your order to go to separate addresses, simply place separate orders for each address.
And, if you are sending an order as a gift, we do not include invoices or any pricing information with any orders, so the recipient will only receive their mysterious box of magic.
What if my tracking isn’t showing any updates?
Tracking statuses can take up to 48 hours to update, so they may not always be accurate. If you haven’t received updates after 48 hours, please reach out to us at meow@hauntkatcandles.com and we will be happy to look into it.
Returns & Exchanges
Can I return or exchange my candle if I don’t like it?
We want you to be over the moon with your purchase! And we also know that buying candles online can be tricky, and everyone’s sense of smell is a bit different.
If you’re not 100% happy with the scent of your candle, you can exchange the unburned candle within 30 days of delivery.
Simply email us at meow@hauntkatcandles.com and let us know your order number, and what you didn’t like about the scent (too strong, too sweet, etc). We will be happy to assist you in finding a fragrance you’ll love.
Miscellaneous
Do you offer gift cards?
Yes! Send a spooky cute surprise to a special someone with our VIRTUAL GIFT CARDS. Please note, gift cards cannot be refunded, but they never expire. Use them in our shop anytime!
Do you have a wholesale program?
We currently do not have a wholesale program, but are working to set it up. If you are interested in carrying our candles, please send us an email at meow@hauntkatcandles.com and we will let you know as soon as our program is ready.

Do you have a physical store or only sell online?
